You will be treated to a unique experience that goes beyond mere sightseeing!
Guests take their vehicles and join us to visit the main areas of three of our four operational farming properties.
The first stop is at Riverleigh, the main cropping farm. Steve explains seasonal planting operations, soil preparation, weed control, and best practices.
Also, Riverleigh has the processing shed for our Wagyu breeding programs. Learn about the practices of weighing cattle, taking DNA samples, and general animal welfare duties. Visit the broodmare paddock of our Australian Stock Horses. If your tour is in foaling season, it is likely for a few foals to be running around.
The next stop is Coleridge, referred to as “home”. The core of the Australian Stock Horse stud. Learn about the Australian Stock Horse breed and what is involved with running a horse stud.
We will make a brief stop at the Leucaena paddock. There, we will learn about the plant and its benefits to our beef production.
Final stop – The Shanti, one of our grazing blocks also on Charleys Ck downstream from Clover Hill Ranch.
The property is a significant site for the region as it was a field station for the breeding and distribution of the Cactoblastis cactorum, to control the invasive prickly pear, Opuntia spp—the most successful biological control program in Australia.
The Cactoblastis Monument is another great project of the Chinchilla Lions Club and a popular tourist destination in the region.
The farm tour is a great opportunity to really get a behind-the-scenes look at what it is like to live on the land and operate cattle, horses, and farming properties.

Welcome to Chinchilla!
Known for its quirky and fun-filled biennial Melon Festival, Chinchilla is a vibrant country town in the heart of the Western Downs. But don’t be fooled by this small town’s size, it belies its population with the quantity of produce grown in the region. In fact, Chinchilla produces 25% of Australia’s watermelons. Try your luck fossicking for petrified wood or wander the shady tree-lined main street. Visit nearby country townships of Brigalow, named after the local brigalow trees and Kogan with its public artworks and sculptures that have added vital history to the local area.
